We are the Landscape

This theatrical production was a two year process of investigating, composing original music, visiting homelands, building instruments, and teaching each other songs and dances. What began as a way to share ancestral wisdom and memory from our individual cultures of Meshica, Cherokee, Quechua and Filipino, became an homage to the elements, and an offering from diverse artists with a shared vision.

"I am deeply touched by your performance. I was transported to a different place, where there was no time - only the audience and artists experiencing what it truly means to get back to your roots. Thank you." - Erika Crane Ricketts

Mocambo

Winner, Best Actress, Best Director, Eduardo Avaroa National Theater awards, Bolivia

En las tablas del puerto

La lluvia en un cubo

y el cubo con lágrimas

de búsquedas e historias

de mares perdidos

a los que se besa con lengua

Desde este peñasco,

el más alto de esta ciudad,

puedo ver la sombra

de las nubes grises

sobre el amante océano

y distinguir el olor

de las bestias insomnes,

de ese pecho apretado,

de esas piernas morenas

Hasta aquí, de tan lejos

se te oye danzando,

bravura y tristeza,

pianos que sollozan

tras esa mirada que explota,

que me habla en Si menor,

me educa en la soledad

Todavia niña

y fuego y aire

y cintura empañada,

todavía bises y aplausos,

todavía no hallo consuelo

a tus huellas cercanas

y tus ojos que ven mejor

bajo el mar, porque eres pez

que se perpetua en mi garganta

- Quincho.

Pd. Un poema que salió al ver la obra "Mocambo" . Tristemente hermosa.

On the planks of the port

The rain in a cube

and the cube with tears

from searching and stories

of lost seas

to those who kiss with tongue

From this rock,

the tallest in this city,

I can see the shadow

of the gray clouds

about the ocean lover

and distinguish the smell

of the sleepless beasts,

of that tight chest,

of those brown legs

Even to here, from so far away

you can be heard dancing,

bravery and sadness,

pianos that sob

behind hat look that explodes,

that speaks to me in B minor,

it educates me in loneliness

Still a girl

and fire and air

and foggy waist,

still, encores and applause,

still I have no solace

for your nearby footprints

and your eyes that see better

under the sea, because you are fish

that perpetuates in my throat.

- Quincho.

P.S. A poem that came out after seeing the work "Mocambo". Sorrowfully beautiful.
